Uruguayan international Darwin Nunez’s time at Anfield may soon come to an end, having also received an offer from Saudi Arabia in this winter transfer window. As a centre-forward, the striker has different characteristics from the skills required by head coach Arne Slot, and is likely to leave at the end of the season.
Aside from clubs in the Middle East, interest from European clubs has also been reported, with Newcastle forward Alexander Isak, Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike and RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko among the targets.
According to Anfield Watch, Liverpool are keen on Nigeria international Victor Osimhen, who is on loan at Galatasaray, and recognise him as the ideal successor to the Uruguayan striker.
Through Lille in France and Napoli in Italy, he has been highly decisive in front of goal, using his outstanding athleticism to outwit opposing defenders. His scoring rate has not diminished in Turkey either, with 28 goals in 32 games.
He will return to Napoli next season, but is unlikely to stay at the club due to a falling out with the upper management. Napoli will have to accelerate the process of releasing one of the best strikers in the world, either by looking for a new loan partner or selling him.
Napoli also have little time for grace, with his contract expiring in June 2026. Therefore, Liverpool may jump at the chance for the Nigerian forward, as this summer is the last chance to sell him for some money, and potentially cheaper than other strikers with exorbitant demands.
The Merseyside club are also expected to make a big move this summer in order to build their ideal team for Slott’s second season in charge, but will they single out the 26-year-old striker as a way of strengthening their front line…?
