Liverpool move into an advantageous position in the battle for Canadian international Jonathan David Transfers

The departure of Canadian international Jonathan David, who has scored more than 20 goals for Lille in France this season, has been hectic. His contract with his club runs until the end of the season and the player has no plans to sign a new deal and is likely to leave on a free transfer.

A number of European clubs are keen on the 25-year-old striker, who has excellent athletic ability and high decision-making ability, partly because he is not subject to a transfer fee. And Liverpool are one such team in search of a new striker.

According to Empire of the Kop, Liverpool have already made contact with the player’s agent and have emerged as favourites in the race for the Canadian forward.

A number of other clubs have also expressed interest, including Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Newcastle United and West Ham United.

Uruguayan international Darwin Nunez is the most likely to leave, but Colombian international Luis Diaz and Portuguese international Diogo Jota have also been linked with a move, while Egyptian international Mohamed Salah is unsure whether he will extend his contract.

This is the second season for manager Arne Slot, who may revamp his forward line-up. Liverpool, who are in the process of sorting out a new centre forward, are looking for a striker who is also tall and can handle the ball well while facing opposing defenders.

While the 178 cm Canadian forward is not one of those targets, he is an attractive alternative option. If Diogo Jota is sold, he is certainly one of the best forwards available on a free transfer.

So will the 25-year-old forward, who has also played against Liverpool this season, ever choose Anfield as his new home…?
