28-year-old forward Luis Diaz, who has played a key role at Anfield in a Liverpool uniform, has attracted interest from a variety of clubs, including Barcelona.
Meanwhile, the Merseyside club are looking to extend his current contract, which runs until 2027, and hope to continue to fight alongside manager Arne Slott.
A few months ago, reports circulated that Manchester City could be interested in the Barrancas-born winger. A number of meetings with the forward’s representatives were leaked, but ultimately no agreement was reached and the possibility was outright dismissed.
According to Antena 2, Chelsea, who are adding new depth to their squad as they do every season, are also eyeing him and are looking to bring in their main Colombian winger from their Premier League rivals.
The London club are also preparing top club salaries within their squad, and it has been suggested that their first challenge could take place in this summer’s transfer window.
However, the reports are not credible: with Chelsea continuing to target young players in their early 20s, it is unlikely that they will be serious about a winger in his late 20s. It is also unlikely that Liverpool would let him go on the cheap and a huge offer would be required.
In addition, while it is understandable that he has admiration for Barcelona, a club he has supported since he was a child, it is hard to believe that the equivalent is available at Stamford Bridge.
Any way you look at it, it’s safe to say that if the Colombian winger leaves Anfield, he won’t be making his way to London.
