This season’s FA Cup was a memory to forget for Liverpool, who put in a disappointing performance against Championship bottom side Plymouth Argyle in the fourth round, conceding a goal from a penalty kick and then disappearing from the competition.
Brighton, meanwhile, beat Chelsea, also from the Premier League, to progress to the next round.
After conceding an early goal through a mistake by their goalkeeper, the visitors equalised through a goal by Georgino Rutter, with Japan international Kaoru Mitoma scoring the winner in a geishitic manner.
The equaliser was assisted by Dutch defender Joël Veltman. The player, who created the chance with a superb cross from the right, revealed that he had taken a leaf out of Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold’s book in training and vowed to make further progress.
“We trained on this,”
“And I think it’s really difficult to defend those passes back and then straight after, a cross.”
“Trent Alexander Arnold, I was watching him doing it. Obviously, I don’t have his kick, but the idea of it is amazing.”
“The FA Cup is a big cup, it’s the biggest cup in England, maybe the world. So, yeah, we’ll see who we draw and go for it.”

The FA Cup fifth round pairings have already been decided, with Brighton facing Burnley, who played in the Premier League last season.
Can the Dutch defender continue his Alexander Arnold-inspired crosses to victory in the next round…?
