Al Nassr pushed hard for Darwin Nunez this winter, but did not agree with Liverpool, unable to find a replacement Transfers

Uruguayan international Darwin Nunez has dropped down the pecking order since Arne Slot took over as manager. Even during the period when Diogo Jota was injured, Luis Diaz, originally a left winger, was given the centre-forward role, and the Dutch coach’s confidence in him has never been high.

The 25-year-old striker, who has been in an unfavourable situation, has received a lot of heat from Saudi Arabia. During the winter transfer window, Al Nassr made two offers and talks were progressing with the player to agree a contract, but the transfer never materialised, according to Fabrizio Romano in Givemesport.

Al Nassr’s final offer was apparently in excess of €75 million. The club’s manager, Stefano Pioli, was keen to add a centre-forward to his squad, so he acquired Colombian international Jhon Durán from Aston Villa for an equivalent fee before the transfer deadline closed.

The reason Liverpool did not accept the offer was not the amount. The offer from Saudi Arabia was close to what the Reds were looking for, but the reason behind this was that they found it difficult to secure a replacement for the Uruguayan forward in a short market.

For some time, head coach Slot had expressed a desire to have six quality forwards up front. The owners have taken this intention into account, but the trend could change this summer.

There are reports that AC Milan, as well as the Saudi Professional League, are serious about acquiring him. Nunez has yet to become an absolute force at Anfield and, as this winter, could be sold if the right offer arrives for the right amount of money.

Will Nunez stay in the Premier League next season, or will he decide to go to the Middle East or Italy?
