Dutch defender Sepp van den Berg has been given a chance in pre-season with the appointment of Arne Slot as manager.
Although he had results in friendlies, his opportunities were limited at Liverpool, where the regulars, led by Virgil van Dijk, are all over the place.
After being on loan for the last few seasons, the 23-year-old centre-back decided to join Brentford, also in the Premier League, last summer.
He is currently out with a knee injury, but has so far made 25 appearances on the pitch through the domestic league, Carabao Cup and FA Cup.
The young defender, who is steadily earning his place in the top flight and developing as a player, revealed that he had also dreamed of playing at Anfield, but suggested that he could return to Liverpool if he can get results at Brentford, where he has earned a place in the starting line-up.
“I would be lying if I said that I didn’t look at that myself,”
“That’s football, you don’t know. I did well in pre-season and I really saw myself playing for the club, but not with the credit that I now have at Brentford.”
“I am now a starter who always plays as long as he is fit. At Liverpool I would have been more of a player who had to fill gaps.”
“I would rather be that starter. And who knows, if I do well here for two or three years, I will return to Liverpool and be a starter there too.”
