Liverpool, who are working to revamp their midfielders, have been keeping a close eye on Dutch midfielder Ryan Gravenberch since he was at Ajax last year.
Last summer, he moved to Bayern Munich, where he was expected to play regularly for the German champions.
In reality, however, he was unable to find regular place and spent much of the season sitting on the bench. Liverpool, aware of this situation, are once again in close proximity to the player and are looking to acquire him in the summer transfer window.
The Dutch midfielder also laments his current situation and continues to demand better treatment from Bayern. He has often hinted at a move away in interviews with the media, but he reiterated his honest feelings, saying that he does not want another season like his first at Bayern.
“I expected to play more minutes than I did. I thought I would get some more chances,”
“It’s about just wanting to play, that’s the most important thing at my age. I hope this can happen at Bayern Munich, otherwise we’ll just have to look further.”
“I told everyone that I don’t want another year like that. Of course you can’t always be in the starting XI, but you can still play regularly, you can get a lot of minutes.”ESPN
Although he was regarded as a gem of the future Dutch national team during his time at Ajax, he failed to gain the trust of manager Julian Nagelsmann at the German champions, and although he improved a bit under Thomas Tuchel, his games as a starter have been limited.
Bayern appreciates the player’s talent, and the club’s president is optimistic that he will see more playing time next season. Bayern has no intention of releasing him at this point, but that could change if the former Ajax midfielder volunteers to move on.
Will Liverpool succeed in bringing the 21-year-old midfielder to Anfield?
