Romeo Lavia, a Belgian midfielder, joined Southampton from Manchester City in the last summer. After being given a regular role in the opening day match against Tottenham, he made 29 appearances in the Premier League and has developed into one of the hottest young midfielders in England.
He has also been selected for the Belgium national team in March 2023, and his reputation continues to grow. However, his club will be relegated to the Championship next season, and there are rumors of the main squad leaving the club.
19-year-old midfielder is also attracting interest from strong clubs, including Liverpool, and a move this summer is likely.
With a variety of potential destinations being reported, the former Manchester City midfielder is likely to join Liverpool, with The Athletic’s Jacob Tanswell making some interesting comments about the player’s departure.
“Southampton want a high figure for him. Someone has got to pay around £45m-£50m for Lavia. Who can do that is dependent on all the other targets they get.”
“Liverpool or Chelsea. I probably think Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp and with the background [work] they’ve done on him, that probably looks the likely destination.”
Empire of the Kop
Alexis Mac Allister is a balancer type who can be effective in both offense and defense. Dominik Szoboszlai is the type who is better at creating chances from a higher position. The remaining priority is to secure a defensive midfielder who can ease Fabinho’s burden.
Khéphren Thuram, a French U-21 midfielder who is more athletic and can cover the entire pitch, would seem to be the preferred candidate, but will Lavia ever see the pitch at Anfield next season…?
