Liverpool defender Joel Matip will miss the remainder of the season due to a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.
Matip suffered the knee injury in the 4-3 win over Fulham on December 3 and was sidelined for an extended period of time.
In the second half of the match, the former Cameroon defender was in pain and informed the bench that he had been injured in a scuffle with Willian. Subsequent tests revealed the extent of the damage.
Matip’s contract expires in the summer of 2024, so the 32-year-old may have played his last game for the club, where he has made more than 200 appearances since joining from Schalke in 2016.
