Local defender Trent Alexander-Arnold won a regular role as a right back for Liverpool as a teenager.
The England defender, who has won many laurels with manager Jurgen Klopp, has changed his role in recent years and has been appointed vice-captain this season, leading the team.
He has been playing as a false back since last season, and as a midfielder when attacking. He uses his long and short passes to set up all kinds of attacks from the bottom of the midfield.
He has been starting more and more games as a midfielder for the national team.
He can play at right back or in the midfield, and his ability to change his game makes him one of the hardest players for opponents to grasp.
Newcastle forward Callum Wilson, who has played with the England national team, spoke of the difficulty of facing him.
“When you’re a top player you can adapt to any position. Basically, what I’m saying is as long as he’s in the team the manager will chop and change where he plays him and teams won’t be able to pinpoint how to stop him because he’ll be in midfield one game and at right-back the next, in terms of how he is creatively, he’s unbelievable.”
