Throughout the summer of 2023, Liverpool rebuilt its midfielders. With the acquisitions of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo, and Ryan Gravenberch, the club is now competing for the top spots in the Premier League after a poor season last year.
The club is also expected to make a move for a defensive midfielder this winter, although it seems as if the midfield reinforcements are done for now. While the media is buzzing with names like Fluminense midfielder Andre, Liverpool is turning its attention to Italy.
According to il BiancoNero, Liverpool are interested in Bologna’s Scottish midfielder Lewis Ferguson, who is a regular in the team, and are keeping an eye on his performances.
The 24-year-old midfielder came to Serie A from Aberdeen last summer and scored seven goals in 32 domestic league games in his first season with the club. He has quickly become an integral part of the team and has started every league game this season.
He has also shown signs of establishing himself in the Scotland national team, playing a full part in a match against France. Although he has played in the Europa League and Conference League qualifiers during his time at Aberdeen, he has played few big games and lacks the ability for a club aiming for the top of the Premier League.
It is safe to say that Liverpool is not likely to make a move for him, as he is in his mid-20s and cannot be an investment for the future.
In addition, the club has a full complement of attacking midfielders, and following the summer, it is unlikely that they will spend the budget in consecutive years.
The Scottish midfielder is improving his reputation in Italy, but could he ever land in England in the future…?
