Fabio Carvalho, the Portuguese U-21 midfielder who led Fulham to the Championship title in the 2021/22 season and joined Liverpool before the start of the following season, struggled for playing time at Anfield and was loaned to RB Leipzig in the transfer market last summer. Carvalho was loaned to RB Leipzig in the summer of 2008.
However, he did not get much playing time at the club, and despite being with the club for six months, he only played 360 minutes. Liverpool, concerned about the player’s development, wanted to withdraw the loan early, and after discussions between the two clubs, the decision was made to loan him back.
The 21-year-old midfielder returned to Anfield, but he is unlikely to establish himself in the first team and is likely to be loaned out again.
With a lot of interest from the Premier League and the Championship, Rouven Schröder the sporting director of his former club until the end of last year, explains why the move did not work out.
“We were able to sign a young player with plenty of potential over the summer in Fábio Carvalho,”
“Fábio was able to quickly integrate himself here, but both parties had expected more from his time here – especially Fábio in terms of his playing time.”
“Due to the quality and competition within our squad at his position, we are unable to guarantee this for him.”
“We held several discussions over the last days and in the end, decided to end his loan early.”
We would like to thank Fábio for his efforts at RBL and wish him all the best for the future.”
