English midfielder Jordan Henderson joined Liverpool from his hometown Sunderland in 2011, and while he was briefly a candidate for release, he has developed into one of the best midfielders in the world under Jurgen Klopp’s leadership.
He has long led the team as Liverpool’s captain, but fearing a decline in opportunities, he decided to move to Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ettifaq in the transfer market last summer, after some persuasion from Steven Gerrard, a manager he once played with. It is also rumored that he is getting as much as £700,000 per week.
However, the former Liverpool midfielder is having trouble adjusting to the Middle East. According to the Daily Mail, Henderson is considering leaving Al-Ettifaq and wants to return to England’s top flight.
The player is not happy with the team’s situation in the Saudi Professional League, where they are struggling. In addition, he is also suffering from the heat and humidity unique to the Middle East, which has led him to want to leave Saudi Arabia after only six months.
Although there are Premier League clubs looking to strengthen their midfielders, no team can pay them as much as they receive in the Middle East. Even if his club agrees to release him, the English midfielder would have to be prepared to take a significant pay cut.
His old club, Liverpool, has very little chance of trying to acquire him. Even if he does return to the Premier League, he could be one of their opponents.
Will Jordan Henderson be willing to give up his hefty salary to come back to his home country after only six months?
