Liverpool defender Joel Matip has been ruled out for the season due to a serious injury. With his current contract expiring in June 2024, his departure will be closely watched this season, but at this point there is no indication that negotiations are underway and he may be playing for a different club next season.
Steven Gerrard’s Al Ettifaq are interested in the former Cameroon defender, and his name has been mentioned in their reinforcement plans for next summer.
Fabrizio Romano, who is well versed in the transfer market, ruled out leaving the club this winter, but suggested that the Saudis could be attractive.
“Despite talk of a possible move to Al Ettifaq, Joel Matip won’t leave Liverpool now.”
“In the summer it could be different and interest from Saudi can attract him.”
“I also don’t see Joe Gomez leaving, he’s staying.”

This August, at the age of 33, 20-year-old defender Jarell Quansah turned in a consistent performance and kept a clean sheet against Arsenal in the third round of the FA Cup.
He has been steadily developing and could be one of the contenders for a regular spot next season.
In addition, he is a new center back. Last summer, the team was looking for a left-handed defender in particular, and it is possible that a center back who can also play left back will be brought into the team.
What kind of career will the 32-year-old center back have in the future?
