This winter has been the quietest transfer market in the Premier League in a long time. Nearly half of the clubs did not acquire anyone on a complete transfer, and Liverpool was one of them. There were rumors of securing a new center back, partly due to Joel Matip’s injury, but as a result no one joined the team.
However, Liverpool was approached by RB Salzburg to acquire the center back. Fabrizio Romano, an expert on transfers, said that former France U-20 defender Oumar Solet had been offered, but the Reds had rejected the proposal with internal discussions.
“They were offered a nice possibility, an interesting opportunity with Oumar Solet at Salzburg as new centre-back,”
“A player that they have been scouting for a long time.”
“Obviously, the German director of Liverpool (Jorg) Schmadtke knows the player so well, so there were discussions internally this possibility for Oumar Solet.”
“Then Liverpool decided not to sign any player, but Solet was one of the names in the list also at Napoli, and also in the list at Lens, then he ended up staying at Salzburg.”

Last summer, Liverpool showed interest in Chelsea defender Levi Colwill. During the summer and winter, they were also keen on Sporting defender Goncalo Inácio, and a battle with Newcastle and other Premier League clubs could have developed.
However, with Joel Matip likely to leave the club at the end of the season and Virgil van Dijk’s departure uncertain due to the announcement of Klopp’s retirement the same year, Liverpool’s top priority is to sign a new center back under a new coach.
Liverpool has turned down a proposal from RB Salzburg, but will the club sign a center back in this summer’s transfer market?
