Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp is stepping down at the end of the season. While Xabi Alonso, who leads Bayer Leverkusen, is the leading candidate to succeed him, we are also looking at Reuben Amorim, the 39-year-old coach of Sporting.
He moved to his current club from SC Braga in March 2020 and won the domestic league in the 2020/21 season.
He is also experienced in the Champions League and Europa League, having led the club in 32 matches so far.
The promising young Portuguese coach has a termination clause in his contract with Sporting, which was 20 million euros until last year, but the price has dropped to 10 million euros at the moment, according to the David Ornstein.
“Ruben Amorim’s got a release clause in his contract,”
“It was, I think a year ago when Chelsea spoke to him, it was up at €20 million.”
“Now I understand it’s €10 million, which people might feel is low, especially if it was a player signing. But that is high for a managerial appointment, whether we like it or not,”

The first choice for Liverpool is only Xabi Alonso. He played at Anfield when he was a player, is loved by many supporters, and has a good relationship with the club.
However, Bayern Munich, also in search of a manager, has shown strong interest, and rumor has it that Barcelona is also eyeing him. The battle for the Spanish coach is fierce, and Leverkusen has not given up on the idea of staying.
If Liverpool fail to sign a new coach, they are likely to turn their attention to Portugal, and there is no telling who will be in charge at Anfield from next season onward. Which coach will Liverpool entrust their future to?
