This summer marks the end of the Jurgen Klopp regime that has been in place since 2015.While the Fenway Sports Group was in the process of shortlisting the next generation of leaders, they were also planning to bring back Michael Edwards, the former sporting director, to lead the new regime in an all-encompassing role.
At first, he was not keen on the idea and shook his head at approaches from Chelsea as well as Liverpool. However, direct persuasion from the executive team in Boston changed his mind, and negotiations proceeded to the final stage.
And Fabrizio Romano reported that he was close to announcing his return.
“Liverpool are close to getting the final green light for Michael Edwards’s return at the club, it’s imminent.”
“Final details to be signed off before it’s sealed and announced — almost there.”
“Liverpool final attempt looks like it’s been the right one to get it done.”
