Last summer, while longtime standouts such as Jordan Henderson, James Milner, and Fabinho left Anfield, Liverpool welcomed Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai to the team.
The reinforcements have been playing well throughout the season and are in a fierce battle for the top spot in the Premier League with Arsenal and Manchester City. The midfielders, including Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones, have also been playing well, and there are no blind spots in the midfield.
Still, many in the media are rumoring further reinforcements in the midfield. According to Fichajes, Liverpool, along with Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, are interested in Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, who has quickly become a household name after playing a major role in the last World Cup.
The defensive midfielder spent this season on loan at Manchester United from Fiorentina, but the move fell through as he failed to keep up with England’s unique speed or adapt to coach Erik Ten Hag’s style of play.
The player has fallen out of favor in the Premier League, but Atletico Madrid, who employ more defensive tactics, are keeping a close eye on him and are planning to bring him to the Spanish capital during this summer’s transfer window.
Barcelona is also looking for a player who can handle the bottom of midfield under a new coach after last summer’s acquisition, Oriol Romeu, did not perform as well as expected. The Moroccan midfielder’s name has been listed as one of the options.
On the other hand, Liverpool had been interested in the player at one time, but that is now a fact. No reinforcement department would be foolish enough to scout a player who suffers from England’s intensity and is prone to passing errors and poor decisions.
I don’t think Manchester United would also exercise their buyout option with the 27-year-old midfielder. Will he return to Fiorentina or will he blossom again in Spain?
