Liverpool underwent a revamp of their midfielders during last summer’s transfer window. Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo are already regulars, while Ryan Gravenberch shines in Europe but is still getting used to English football.
The younger generation, including Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott, are developing well and strengthening the midfield is not part of the immediate reinforcement plan. However, there has been a surprise from the Spanish side regarding Liverpool and the Uruguayan midfielder.
According to El Debate, Liverpool have offered as much as £128 million for Real Madrid’s 25-year-old midfielder Federico Valverde. The Montevideo-born midfielder has been a mainstay this season, making over 40 appearances.
The midfielder, who can also play on the right wing, is trusted by coach Carlo Ancelotti. With Croatian midfielder Luka Modric likely to leave at the end of the season, there is no reason to let go of a player who regularly plays in midfield.
In addition, there is no reason for Liverpool to offer over £100 million for a player who is not their top priority. The offer is also clearly too high and is unlikely to be approved by the team’s transfer committee.
It is nothing more than a complete gossip story and there is zero chance of the Reds making any further moves.
This summer’s budget is expected to be spent on centre-backs and right wingers, and it is unlikely that the Reds will move big money for a midfield player again.
