Liverpool are in the process of securing the services of 25-year-old Irish goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, who is likely to leave the club in the summer.

They are looking to secure a second goalkeeper to replace Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker and are looking at young goalkeepers who have performed well in the Championship.

However, Liverpool are interested in 21-year-old goalkeeper Alex Paulsen, who is emerging in New Zealand, and Sky Sports News reported that Chelsea and Bournemouth, also in the Premier League, are also interested.

The paper also reports that Bournemouth are said to be leading the battle and are close to pulling him out of Wellington Phoenix.

Paulsen, who will be at the club from September 2021, has made 36 appearances for the A-League men.

He also has experience on the international stage, having pitched for the New Zealand U-23 national team in four matches, and helped the team to a second-place finish in the 2023/24 season.

With no experience at the top level, it is highly unlikely that Liverpool would be interested in acquiring him.

Even if they were to acquire him, it is unlikely that he would have the ability to suddenly take over the second-choice role, and it would be more ideal to promote an academy player.

So which club will New Zealand’s promising young goalkeeper be playing for next season…?
