Ireland goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has failed to break the stronghold of Brazilian goalkeeper Alison Becker and has been second best.
This season is the first time he has had the opportunity to play due to the lengthy period of time the regular keeper has been out injured, but there is no telling what will happen next season.
At 25 years of age, it is hard to see a future where he stays any longer at a club where he cannot secure a regular place, and it is increasingly likely that he will move to another club in the transfer market this summer. This winter, Nottingham Forest presented an offer to acquire him.
As a replacement, Feyenoord goalkeeper Justin Baillyau has recently been the subject of reported interest from Liverpool. New head coach Arne Slot was in charge until this season, so he knows the character and style of play of the players.
The 26-year-old goalkeeper, who has also made eight appearances for the Dutch national team, has attracted interest from Liverpool as well as Arsenal, who are uncertain about the departure of Aaron Ramsdale.
The player has expressed his feelings on interest from both clubs and flubbed his future by saying he is ambitious.
“Would I stay at Feyenoord? You never know, do you? That’s football. You don’t know that,”
“I’m ambitious, I’ve always said that. If the opportunity presents itself and a good club comes from abroad, I am open to it. I’ve always said that.”
“As long as I am under contract with Feyenoord, that is never a punishment and I will give everything as long as I play there.”
“Those are two very nice clubs,”
“Of course it is always nice to be mentioned at big clubs. What I’m just saying: I’m ambitious. As long as I play for Feyenoord I will give everything for that and first I just want to focus on the Dutch team.”
