The 24-year-old midfielder finished fourth in Serie A and has made 53 appearances this season, including through the Coppa Italia. He operates mainly as a central midfielder and as a defensive midfielder, running all over the pitch with his abundant athleticism.
He has also played against Liverpool in the Europa League. He started in both home and away matches, contributing to the quarter-final passage with a total of 3-1. In the final, they lifted the trophy with an impressive three-goal victory against Bayer Leverkusen, the undefeated Bundesliga champions.
Attackers and centre-backs were seen as Liverpool’s top priority for reinforcements, but a defensive midfielder who can compete regularly with 31-year-old midfielder Wataru Endo is essential. It is likely that the Brazilian midfielder is calculated to be used there.
