In the summer of 2019, 19-year-old midfielder James McConnell joined Liverpool’s youth system after growing up in Sunderland’s lower divisions. This season he made his long-awaited first-team debut in the Premier League and Europa League.
It is not clear how much playing time he will get next season, as 19-year-old midfielder Stefan Bajcetic will be back to full fitness after a long lay-off. In addition, the club is believed to be working on acquiring a new midfielder, like Atalanta midfielder Ederson, who is likely to spend more time off the bench.
According to the Liverpool Echo, Hull City are interested in loaning the player and he could end up playing at the MKM Stadium instead of Anfield next season.
The club and Liverpool have a good relationship, with Tyler Morton and Fabio Carvalho both moving on loan this season. The former has three goals and five assists in 41 games, while the latter, despite joining mid-season, has been a revelation with nine goals and two assists in 20 games.
Both players have made leaps and bounds in the Championship and will get their chance in the first team under new manager Arne Slot.
Like the senior midfielder, will the former Sunderland midfielder get solid development at a club with a proven track record…?
