After growing up in Ajax’s youth system and achieving Champions League results as a teenager, Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt then moved to Juventus. After making 117 appearances in Italy, he sought a new home at Bayern Munich in the summer of 2022.

In his first year with the club, he played many games in the starting line-up, but in his second season he was gradually taken out of the starting line-up more and more often. He has started just 16 Bundesliga games and his departure under new coach Vincent Kompany is under scrutiny.

According to TBR Football, the player’s agent has been working behind the scenes in search of his next move and has made approaches to Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Newcastle United.

Bayern, who have signed Japan defender Hiroki Ito from Stuttgart, are also close to acquiring Bayer Leverkusen’s Germany defender Jonathan Tah, leaving them with an overstretched centre-back squad.

As a result, there are rumours of the Dutch defender as well as South Korean defender Kim Min-jae leaving the club, with a shake-up expected to take place.

The young 24-year-old defender, who is said to have been unhappy with Thomas Tuchel’s regime, wants to play in England and his agent is acting accordingly.

So will the Leiderdorp-born centre-back leave Germany this summer…?
