With the departure of Joel Matip, the age of Virgil van Dijk and issues to be resolved in the centre-back corps, Liverpool have been looking to bring in new defenders in the transfer market this summer.
And one player who has recently been at the centre of the conversation is France U-23 defender Leny Yoro, who plays for LOSC Lille. The gem of a player, who is also being keenly watched by Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, is said to have volunteered to go to Spain, and it is unclear whether a move to England will materialise.
According to Caught Offside, Liverpool are prepared to offer a high salary to bring the player to Anfield. The amount is reported to be “£125,000 per week”, which is more than Hungarian midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai and Dutch international Cody Gakpo.
Liverpool are keen to secure the young gem, who is expected to play at the top level over the next decade. There have already been reports that offers of as much as £42 million have been rejected, and they are looking at him as the next generation of centre-backs, alongside the likes of Ibrahima Konate and Jarell Quansah.
At the age of 18, he has made 60 first-team appearances. He has also pitched in seven games in the Conference League and played on the European stage. He is now recognised as one of the best young defenders in Europe.
