In last summer’s transfer window, Liverpool worked to revamp their midfield, adding Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch to the squad, all of whom have performed well, to a greater or lesser extent.
Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott have also progressed well, while Stefan Bajcetic is set for a resurgent season after being plagued by injury last season. Despite the departure of Thiago Alcantara, the team has a well-stocked midfield squad.
Nevertheless, rumours of acquiring a new defensive midfielder persist.
German midfielder Joshua Kimmich, whose contract extension talks with Bayern Munich have been stalled, is one such player who, according to Ben Jacobs (sports journalist), may be in contention with Juventus, Barcelona and Manchester United.
“I think we have to keep an eye on Liverpool, Juventus, possibly Barcelona, although there’s obviously financial considerations, and even Manchester United, who all could be in the race for Kimmich and are all assessing whether there’s value at that number before making any kind of meaningful approach.”
