Liverpool turn down offers from Wolfsburg and Mainz for Sepp van den Berg Transfers

Sepp van den Berg built up his reputation during a loan spell at Preston North End, and when he moved on loan to Mainz last season, he immediately grabbed a regular place in the team.

Over the course of the season, he made 36 appearances and produced outstanding performances. Several clubs, not only in the Bundesliga, were interested.

As for the 22-year-old centre-back, he is rumoured to be leaving Liverpool in the summer and is expected to demand £20 million from any club that tries to acquire him. Nevertheless, new manager Arne Slot wants to test the player in pre-season.

According to The Athletic, Liverpool have rejected offers from Wolfsburg and Mainz and want to see if they can fill the position left vacant by Joel Matip’s expiring contract.

The 22-year-old has made just four first-team appearances for Liverpool and has been on loan in recent years, but all eyes will be on the Netherlands U-21 defender as he is said to be keen to leave the club this summer in search of more playing time.

Will the Zwolle-born defender convince his commanders in pre-season and be selected as one of the centre-backs ?

Or will he be offered a transfer fee in exchange for a second spell at a new club?
