Bayer Leverkusen won the Bundesliga without defeat and reached the Europa League final with head coach Xabi Alonso. In the team that achieved the Miracle, Dutch defender Jeremie Frimpong awakened as a right wing-back.
He scored 14 goals and provided 12 assists in 47 games over the course of the season, and quickly made a name for himself all over Europe. He has caught the eye of some of the best clubs in the world and the 23-year-old super-aggressive side-back is expected to step up his game this summer.
According to Bild, Frimpong dreams of playing for four clubs – Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City and Real Madrid – as his next club, and Leverkusen are planning to demand €40 million.
Liverpool have also reportedly already made contact with the player’s agent and are exploring the required transfer fee and contract terms.
He also represented the Netherlands at EURO 2024 this summer. He played a few minutes against Poland and Turkey and started the match against France, but otherwise sat on the bench and was not in his element.
Despite his small stature, he has a highly agile style of play and is the type of player who can contribute defensively while being in front of goal every time with his abundant athleticism.
Liverpool do not have a wing-back position and are likely to lose out defensively at right-back, so if they do acquire him, he is expected to be used as a right winger, similar to the Dutch international.
