Last summer, Liverpool acquired a number of midfielders, including Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. All have been established as mainstays and team members, albeit to varying degrees, and are expected to do even better in the coming season and beyond.
With young midfielders also on the rise and a well-balanced midfield in terms of age, there is no pressing need for further reinforcements for Liverpool. However, Ben Jacobs (sports journalist) claimed that Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Brazilian midfielder Joao Gomes is his favourite.
“Midfield is not as high on their list of priorities as a centre-back and wide player,”
“But, I don’t think we can entirely rule it out and Liverpool really like Joao Gomes as well, so that could be one to watch in the coming months. But for now, midfield is not the priority,”
GIVEMESPORT
The 23-year-old midfielder, who landed in the Premier League from Flamengo in the winter of 2023, is the type of midfielder who can run all over the pitch with plenty of athleticism and can be as physical as he can be against the opposition, while still being able to get the ball forward.
At the Molineux Stadium, he has scored three goals and assisted one in 49 games. He has also become accustomed to English football, making his full national team debut for his native Brazil in March 2024, and has been on the ground for eight games since.
Liverpool have no plans to spend big money to secure a midfielder, but will they bring in a new Brazilian player…?
