Former Schalke defender Joel Matip has left Liverpool and Virigl Van Dijk is becoming a veteran at 33. Along with Ibrahima Konate and Jarell Quansah, Liverpool are looking for someone who can take over the final line on a long-term basis.

New manager Arne Slot has high hopes for Dutch defender Sepp van den Berg, who was very successful at Mainz last season, but the player is said to want to move to a club where he is guaranteed a regular place and his departure is not a matter for discussion.

According to Italian outlet Tuttosport, Liverpool and Newcastle United have made enquiries about 19-year-old defender Dean Huijsen from Juventus. The transfer fee is expected to be at least €30 million.

Meanwhile, the paper also reports that he has a personal agreement with Paris Saint-Germain on a contract until 2029, but negotiations are not going well due to a gap in the transfer fee; PSG have offered €20 million, but Juventus believe it is too low and are looking to add €10 million.

Other Bundesliga sides such as Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, RB Leipzig and Stuttgart are also keeping an eye on developments, and the Spanish U-21 defender, who performed well for AS Roma last season, has no difficulty in finding a new home.

As mentioned above, with Van den Bergh and the young centre-back returning from loan, Liverpool are unlikely to make a potential hire with little experience of playing at the top level at the moment.

It is also not a club that would quickly pay €30 million for a player with only 14 Serie A appearances and a lack of experience.

A move to Liverpool seems unlikely due to the balance between value and transfer fee, but which club will the 19-year-old centre-back be playing for next season…?
