For me, team comes first...Trent Alexander-Arnold's idea of the right position Career

England defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose talent was recognised by manager Jurgen Klopp, has been getting first-team action since he was a teenager.

He is often criticised for his lightweight defence, but his kicking accuracy is second to none in the Premier League. In recent years, he has started to break new ground in his career, being used not only as a right-back but also increasingly as a false back for his club and as a defensive midfielder for his national team.

There is debate as to where the player’s best position is, as he has concerns in defence.

The Liverpool defender, who is now halfway through his twenties and will now enter his late twenties, talked about the position he would like to play and revealed that he has no particular favourite area and will only play as hard as he can wherever he can contribute to the team.

“I don’t particularly have any opinion on it, to be honest.”

“Even if I did, it’s not my decision!”

“As long as I’m on the pitch. I want to impact games, I want to help the team win games.”

“Whatever that position may be, in whatever way I can, I just want to be someone who can help the team win and be successful.”

“For me, team comes first. For whatever role I am asked to do, whether it’s a defensive fullback role, and attacking fullback, or whatever role in midfield, it doesn’t matter to me.”

“As long as I follow the instructions that I’m given and try and carry them out the best way I can and help the team win the game – I’ll try everything to do that.”

Renewing the player’s contract, which runs until June 2025, is a priority for Liverpool. With Real Madrid likely to make a move for the player at the time of expiry, it is imperative to keep the local star at Anfield.

His role may change in the new Arne Slot regime, but what kind of player will he turn into in the future…?
