Since joining Liverpool, Egyptian international Mohamed Salah has led the team to glory with a number of goals and assists. He is still the team’s ace and made his presence felt in the Arne Slot regime, scoring one goal and assisting another in the opening game of the season against Ipswich Town.
However, Saudi Arabia have shown continued interest and will reportedly be looking to acquire him on a free transfer next summer, when his contract expires, which is due to expire in June 2025. He is also entering the veteran’s age bracket at 32, and the search for a successor is in full swing.
One of the candidates that emerged throughout last season was Belgian international Johan Bakayoko from PSV Eindhoven. With his overwhelming athleticism, he continued to create chances from the right wing, and in 48 games last season, he scored 14 goals and provided 14 assists, an impressive figure.
According to Football Insider, Liverpool continue to search for a replacement for Egyptian King, but are very unlikely to make a move for the player in the transfer market this summer.
In the unlikely event that they are unable to extend Salah’s contract, he could leave Anfield as early as next summer. We would like to bring in a successor with a year to acclimatise him to the Premier League and slot football, but at the moment we do not even hear rumours that negotiations are underway.
The 21-year-old winger has started the opening Eredivisie game of the season and scored one goal. He is one of the best young attackers in Europe, but if the reports are true, his options are to stick to gaining experience in the Netherlands or move to another big club.
Liverpool have not been able to implement the reinforcements they had in mind, but will they be able to bring a new right winger into the team before the end of August…?
