After seemingly moving to reinforce their front line and final line, Liverpool moved around in the transfer market this summer, with the defensive midfielder being their first priority.
While they came close to acquiring Real Sociedad’s Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi, negotiations did not come to fruition due to the player’s decision in the end.
After that, Liverpool did not move towards acquiring a midfielder and signed potential future defender Giorgi Mamardashvili. He will stay at Valencia on loan for the rest of the season.
Then, with the transfer window looming, they finished the summer by bringing Italian international Federico Chiesa into the team.
German newspaper BILD’s Yvonne Gabriel revealed that Liverpool were also interested in attacking midfielders and their target was Dutch midfielder Xabi Simons. He also suggested that he could leave Paris Saint-Germain next summer.

The 21-year-old midfielder, who also represented his country’s full national team at EURO 2024 with great success, will play for RB Leipzig this season after last season, and with 10 goals and 15 assists in 43 games, he is sure to make a good impression and run riot in the new season.
He will certainly be a valuable asset for Liverpool. However, he is under contract to PSG until June 2027 and would require a hefty transfer fee to acquire, so it is unlikely that Liverpool would be willing to make a move for him, but…?
