Italian international Federico Chiesa left Juventus, where he had been out of contention, to join Liverpool this summer. He remained at Anfield for the international break, training with the youngsters and pushing to get back into condition.
His great performance at EURO 2020 made him a player that all the strong clubs were interested in, but he has since suffered a series of injuries and has been unable to return to top form.
He was left out of new manager Thiago Motta’s plans and, while he was looking for a new club, Liverpool arranged negotiations.
The 26-year-old attacker was one of the best wingers in Serie A. Former England goalkeeper David James, who played for Liverpool during his playing days, spoke highly of his performances in Italy and recalled the move as the best signing he had made.
“I love him.”
“Where he has a lot of what Liverpool already have, this is a style of play that a lot of Premier League defenders will not be used to.”
“It’s not fancy footwork all the time, it might be energy and commitment – he gives it in spade-loads.”
“It’s another dimension that opponents are going to struggle with. When needed, he is going to be called upon and I think he will deliver. I think it’s a fantastic signing.”

The Italian winger can play on the left or on the right, but first he has to win the trust of coach Arne Slot as back-up to Egyptian international Mohamed Salah.
With the Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup also on the horizon, chances are sure to come his way. Will the 26-year-old winger be able to settle into English football and recapture the phenomenal performances he showed a few years ago…?
