So relieved...Federico Chiesa looks back on his Premier League debut on his first appearance on the pitch at Anfield Match

New Italian international Federico Chiesa made his Liverpool debut in the Champions League opener away to AC Milan.

He had only played a handful of minutes in Italy, but his long-awaited moment came at Anfield. He was introduced in the 72nd minute against Bournemouth in the fifth round of the Premier League, and put in a rousing performance, coming close to scoring his first goal and running at defenders.

It was enough to raise expectations, but the Italian winger was frankly relieved to be on the pitch at Anfield.

“Yes, yes, yes, it did! Hearing You’ll Never Walk Alone for the first time from the bench, it was amazing.”

“It was amazing also against Nottingham Forest, but unfortunately we lost, but today was really amazing. I enjoyed every bit of it.”

“I think I played seven minutes in Milan, I played not too much, but I was very, very happy to make my debut in Milan and today I just had to be ready and when the coach told me to get in the game I was so happy and so relieved because I wanted to play here at Anfield.”

He still needs to get used to England’s physicality and quickness, but he has shown the potential to be a contender for the starting line-up.With strong wingers such as Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo, the road ahead will not be easy.

Can the 26-year-old attacker make his mark on Anfield history?
