Dutch midfielder Ryan Gravenberch joined Liverpool from Bayern Munich last summer after struggling for playing time.He played as an inside-half, but has switched positions under Arne Slot and is thriving as a defensive midfielder.
For the 22-year-old midfielder, who continues to perform at the top level in the Premier League, 25-year-old winger Cody Gakpo, who is also a regular in the Dutch national team, said he had noticed his talent since his time in Holland.
“We [the Dutchmen at Liverpool] knew Ryan already from the Eredivisie when he played at Ajax, and I think everybody knew already that he is this good,”
“After, he made a move to Bayern Munich and maybe he didn’t play that much over there, but still everybody in Holland knew how good he could be when he was playing.”
“And I think maybe the manager [Slot] also knew this. At the beginning of the season he put him in a slightly different position but he gave him the confidence to play there.”
“Ryan showed his quality at that position, grabbed his chance as well and turned out to be a good match. He is playing outstandingly for us this season.”
“I’m very happy that we can see the Ryan we as Dutchmen already knew, but now he can show it to the whole world. I’m very proud of him.”
Men in Blazers
On the other hand, he has also played a lot of national team games and fatigue is a concern. There were rumours this summer of signing players who could compete in midfield, but in the end no one came close.
It is reported that the club will make another move in the transfer market this winter or next summer, and players who can compete regularly may be added to the squad.
The former Ajax midfielder has quickly become a mainstay of the midfield and will he continue to make his mark on Anfield history?
