In addition to the contractual problems of Dutch defender VIrgil van Dijk, the departure of England defender Joe Gomez from Liverpool was discussed this summer. With Arne Slot as manager, a restructuring of the final line for a new era is inevitable.

According to Caught Offside, Liverpool have listed a surprise player and are interested in Danish defender Joachim Andersen from Fulham. The report also claims that Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus are also looking at the experienced centre-back.

After a successful career in various countries, including Holland, Italy and France, he joined Crystal Palace in 2021 after a loan spell at Fulham, where he made 113 appearances and built up his reputation in the Premier League.

His ability was rewarded this summer when he returned to Fulham, where he had played on loan, and signed a long-term contract until June 2029.

In just six months, the 28-year-old centre-back, who has started most games, will not be let go and will remain at Craven Cottage until at least next summer. Unless the current club are relegated, he is likely to stay on next season and we would like to treat this as a gossip story only.

He is also a far cry from the centre-back image Liverpool are aiming for. As well as replacing the final line, a generational change has to be pushed forward together, so there is no way the player, who will be 29 next May, will be welcomed to Anfield.

It is also unrealistic to expect him to move to Merseyside, as he has not yet reached the level of a regular in the top teams competing in Europe on a regular basis every game.

Tottenham, who have a strong squad of regulars and reserves, and Juventus, who have Brazilian defender Bremer out for a long time, could be in the running, but what will happen…?
