Irish goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher is one of the best second-choice goalkeepers in the Premier League, performing at the top level when he is available.
Despite being linked with a move to Liverpool in recent years in search of regular playing time, he has remained at Liverpool this season, saving the team with outstanding saves during Alison Becker’s injury lay-off.
He joined Liverpool in the summer of 2015 from his hometown club Ringmahon Rangers in Cork, where he produced results for the U-18s and U-23s, took over the second-choice spot from Spanish goalkeeper Adrian in the first team and helped the team win the Carabao Cup on two occasions.
Although the Brazilian goalkeeper’s barriers are too high for him and he has yet to become an absolute guardian at Anfield, he said he was happy with his time at Liverpool, but was honest about how time had gone very quickly.
“Absolutely, it’s gone really quick. Since I’ve come over it has flown really the whole time. It’s been a really good time and it’s nice to celebrate another one here.”
“It was a challenge for me. I was young and hoping and dreaming like the rest of the lads in the Academy that I could get up to the first team and play a few games. I’m really happy with the way it has gone so far and hopefully it keeps going well.”

In Liverpool’s change from Jurgen Klopp’s regime to Arne Slott’s, some changes were implemented in the formation and style of play, including the composition of the midfield. Experienced players such as Joel Matip, Thiago Alcantara and Adrian also left the team.
Ireland’s regular goalkeeper revealed that morale is high and that he has not lost his hunger in a team that is undergoing a generational change with the loss of veterans who won numerous titles under the German coach.
“There’s obviously I think a big hunger in us to win more trophies and really compete at the highest level. A lot of that squad has departed now so there’s not too many of the squad in there who have tasted Premier League or Champions League success. There’s a lot of hunger in this new squad to achieve those kind of things. We know we have the quality, but we need to go out and show it. Definitely there is a lot of hunger throughout the whole squad.”
