With players such as Trent Alexander-Arnold, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and Conor Bradley, who have honed their skills in the academy, making their mark in the first team, Liverpool is looking to further strengthen its lower structure.
Recently, promising young talents in England such as Trey Nyoni and Rio Ngumoha have joined Liverpool to boost the strength of the U-18s and U-21s. However, the eyes are not only on England, but also on South America.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Liverpool have decided to enter the race for Argentina’s new young talent, 17-year-old midfielder Franco Mastantuono, and are set to make a serious move towards a deal. Barcelona and Real Madrid are also interested.
Despite being just 17 years old, he has a wealth of experience at the top level, having made 40 appearances for River Plate.
He has also been selected for Argentina’s U-20 national team, and his domestic reputation is on the rise. He has evolved into a player that is being scouted by many of Europe’s best clubs.
Although he cannot move to Europe until he turns 18, he can fulfil that requirement next August. There are reports that clubs in various countries are already negotiating with him behind the scenes, and he could make the step up in the transfer market next summer.
Will Argentina’s rising star leave his homeland to join a mega-club?
