Liverpool, looking to strengthen their centre-backs, are considering a £65m offer for Marc Guehi Transfers

Liverpool’s search for a long-term successor to Virgil van Dijk, who will be 34 next year, has seen interest in a number of centre-backs reported in the summer transfer window, but as a result no-one has landed the defender at the deadline.

Crystal Palace defender Marc Guéhi, who represented England at EURO 2024, was one such player and was continually mentioned as a potential transfer target, along with Newcastle United and others.

The season has started in London, but the possibility of seeking a new home mid-season cannot be ruled out.

According to The Mirror, Liverpool are considering a £65 million offer for the player in next summer’s transfer market.

The 24-year-old defender from Chelsea’s academy has made over 100 appearances for Crystal Palace. He has also made 22 appearances for England and has plenty of experience on the international stage. Although he has no Champions League experience, he is good enough to compete.

He can operate as a left centre-back and can directly fill the veteran centre-back hole in the Dutch national team. He is also a good defender against the opposition and has excellent leadership skills in the final line.

He is not as tall as Van Dijk, but he also has the foot technique and speed required of a modern centre-back.

Paying £65 million in the summer of 2025 for a 24-year-old centre-back who is under contract until June 2026 is somewhat too expensive, and with a free transfer available if he waits a year, it is unlikely Liverpool would be forced into action.

If there is, Crystal Palace will either agree to a price reduction or wait until 2026. Will Liverpool be looking to the England defender as their new centre-back…?
