‘Levy called, he wanted me’ Former Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt could be on the cards for Tottenham move Transfers

Dating back to 2006, Dutch international Dirk Kuyt, who was playing for Feyenoord at the time, made the step up to Liverpool.

The team ace, who scored 119 goals and 57 assists in 196 games for his country, showed his ability as one of the best attackers at Anfield.

At Liverpool, he scored 71 goals and provided 41 assists in 285 games before leaving the team in 2012.

Although his figures were inferior to those of his time in Holland, his style of play, in which he covered the entire pitch with his outstanding stamina, enthused the English and made him an indispensable part of the team, especially on the right wing.

The former Dutch forward revealed that he had a chance to move to Tottenham Hotspur, also in the Premier League, in 2005, a year before his move to Liverpool, and although he received a call directly from the chairman, he decided to spend another season in the Eredivisie.

“One year before I left for Liverpool, I was able to go to Tottenham Hotspur on the last day of the transfer market,”

“Spurs chairman Daniel Levy called, he wanted me.”

“I thought that was a very strange moment to leave Feyenoord behind. Leaving Feyenoord without a striker, albeit with a bag of money. Then [agent] Rob Jansen and I decided together not to do that.”

“Marco van Basten has told me this is a very good move not only for myself but for the Dutch team,”

“He thinks I have become too big for football in Holland and I need a move to a bigger club.”

“And he thinks Liverpool is a good club for me. It is a dream that a club like Liverpool with their history wanted me.”

“The beginning of the week I was just stunned by things, now it is a privilege to play for them. I think my game is suited to England, I think I am a typical type of player for the Premier League.”

“I know there is a lot of competition up front, but that is only good for the team. Not everybody can play 50-60 games a season.”
