Despite being in his first season in charge, Arne Slot is leading both the Premier League and the Champions League. With the season half over, this is when fatigue and other symptoms start to set in, and he will want to make the most of a successful rotation to get through the second half of the season.
Jamie Carragher, who was a Liverpool man during his playing days and also played for England, says a defender who can play centre-back and left-back is vital, and argues that if they can strengthen in those positions, they will win the Premier League.
“I think if Liverpool haven’t got a player that every other club has, it’s a left-sided defender who can play centre-back or left-back,”
“So Arsenal have got Calafiori, even United have got Martinez, Chelsea have got Colwill, City have got Nathan Ake and Gvardiol all. Even Tottenham have got Van de Ven, who could do a little bit of left-back. Liverpool need, I’ve said this for a long time, they need a left-sided defender who can sort of do a little bit of both stature, presence and just a bit more power.”
“That’s my only, I think if Liverpool sign that player in January.”
“Nothing’s been linked, but it’s crying out for. I think if Liverpool did that, I’d be almost certain that they’d win the league.”

A number of left-footed centre-backs were linked with a move to Liverpool during last summer’s transfer window.Sporting defender Gonçalo Inácio and Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapié were reported as targets for European players.
However, there are currently no rumours even linking them with the club, and recently there has been a flurry of interest in a potential replacement for the left-back.
Will Liverpool do as their former vice-captain says and sign a left-footed defender who can play centre-back and side-back…?
