The Merseyside club do not recognise the 25-year-old striker as a non-starter, and interest has been received from Saudi Arabia and AC Milan, which could be spent to acquire a new forward if the right offer comes in this summer.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, fellow Serie A side Juventus are also interested in the Uruguayan attacker and are prepared to pay as much as €60 million for him.
It is not clear whether Liverpool will take up the offer, but it would not be surprising if they are looking to replace their forward line-up.
He is perfectly suited to Jurgen Klopp’s style of play, and his ability to get behind the opposition’s final line and his speed to run into the ball out of bounds are second to none and among the best in the Premier League.
On the other hand, he is also notorious for his inability to score one-on-one goals against goalkeepers, a problem that has not improved in his third season in charge.
Under Arne Slot, there is a strong impression that he is struggling in an environment that requires a more flexible and dexterous style of play.
He has also been outclassed in the pecking order by Colombian international Luis Diaz, who is essentially a left winger, and the Dutch coach’s faith in him has never been high.
