Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk is one of three players whose contract with Liverpool expires at the end of the season.
The veteran centre-back, who captains the team and wears the captain’s mark for the national team, is still in negotiations with the club.
With the season soon coming to an end, the 33-year-old defender has revealed that he is keeping his cool, even with the imminent expiry of his contract, but confesses that a result will be reached in a few months’ time. He also said he could not discuss the details of the talks.
“I’m quite calm about it,”
“It’s quite funny because I remember when Gini Wijnaldum, a good friend mine, was coming up to the final six months of his contract at the club, I said to him, I can’t believe how calm he was.”
“But now being in the situation myself, listen, I’m in a very good place, physically, mentally. And now my only focus is trying to be successful at Liverpool, that’s the main focus and be the best captain and player I can be for the club.”
“What will happen in the future, at this point I’ve no idea,”
“But in the next couple of months there will definitely be some information around.”
“I can’t speak about personal conversations that have obviously been going on for a while,”
“But I can only say that I’m fully committed to the club.”
“I’ve mentioned it before, I love the fans, I love the club, I’ve had such an amazing time already and let’s see what the future brings.”
“But as long as I’m calm then I think the rest of the world can stay calm and when there’s a definite answer on my future then it will probably be out there.”
