Andy Robertson is entering his thirties and reserve defender Kostas Tsimikas has not continued to perform well enough to steal regular playing time. The need for a left-back revamp has been discussed, and Liverpool are increasingly likely to make a move for a new defender this summer.
The leading candidate is Hungarian defender Milos Kerkez, who plays for Bournemouth. With various other speculations stirring, including Dutch defender Jorrel Hato, who is a centre-back but can also play at left-back, Liverpool have also turned their attention to Newcastle United.
According to Anfield Watch, the Merseyside club have England defender Lewis Hall on their list and are exploring whether he could replace the long-serving Scotland defender.
The player, who is only 20 years old, made a complete move from Chelsea last summer. He was on loan at Newcastle the season before that and has already made 30 appearances this season, including his full international debut in November 2024.
He is willing to go up and down during games and frequently appears in attack. When defending, he is a tenacious defender and does not allow his opponents freedom. His continued good performances are gaining him a growing reputation in the Premier League and he is recognised as England’s next generation of left-backs.
He can play in the middle without sticking to the sideline, and can also get into the penalty area and get involved in the goal, as Robertson showed on many occasions in his heyday.
He has five assists to his name this season and has become an integral part of the North of England club. With the likes of Ben Chilwell and Luke Shaw out injured, he is expected to be a valuable, long-term defender for the Three Lions.
