Liverpool’s search for a long-term successor to Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk has continued since last summer with rumours linking him with a wide variety of centre-backs, but none of these have become a reality and they are still following the progress of the players on their list.
Ajax defender Jorrel Hato, who was invited by Ryan Gravenberch to watch a match at Anfield, has been reported as one of the targets, with talk of a move to Liverpool heating up and a battle with Arsenal and others likely to develop.
According to TBR Football, the Merseyside club’s interest in the Ajax player is not limited to the 18-year-old rising star defender, as they are also keen on 19-year-old Belgian international Mika Godts and 22-year-old Danish defender Anton Gaaei.
The young winger, who has also been selected for the Belgium U-21 national team, made his first-team debut after coming through the Henk and Ajax academies. He has been a key player in the team this season with eight goals and six assists in 35 games through the Eredivisie and Europa League.
The 19-year-old technician, who has been compared to his country’s hero Eden Azar for his technical prowess and sharp dribbling, has been involved in chances from the left wing and is also decisive in front of goal. He has the potential to replace Luis Diaz.
Meanwhile, the 22-year-old right-back, who joined Ajax from Viborg FF in the summer of 2023, has also started a number of games. He has made 31 appearances so far. He has developed into a utility player, being used not only as a defender but also as a right-sided midfielder and winger.
Liverpool are rumoured to be having an aggressive summer transfer market ahead of next season, but will they be looking to acquire several gems from Ajax…?
