Time is running out as England defender Trent Alexander-Arnold’s talks with Liverpool to renew his contract remain parallel. Andy Robertson is also getting older and is finding it increasingly difficult to perform well on consecutive occasions.
As reinforcements are increasingly likely to be needed at both backs, various names of targets have been reported at left-back, with Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez at the top of the list. And a new player has been added to that list.
According to TBR Football, Liverpool are interested in Nottingham Forest’s Nigerian defender Ola Aina in case things go wrong, with Manchester City, also in the Premier League, also looking to land him.
The 28-year-old defender’s contract expires at the end of the season. He has not signed a contract extension so far and can be acquired on a free transfer.
He has made 40 appearances for Nigeria and has contributed to Nottingham’s solid defence, which has continued to perform well this season, and brings rhythm to the attack with his solid technique.
The player, who moved to England from Turin in July 2023, has seen his reputation grow rapidly this season. He can play as a left-back as well as a right-back and could be a valuable asset for strong clubs in winning long, tough leagues.
However, his age is a concern for Liverpool. He will turn 29 this October, so it is unlikely that the Merseyside club will make a serious move for him, but even if Alexander-Arnold does decide to leave, it would not be surprising to see him as one of the realistic targets with little financial burden.
Manchester City could also look to the former England Under-21 defender to replace former England defender Kyle Walker, who is currently on loan at AC Milan.
Will the 28-year-old defender, who is in charge of Nottingham’s in-form right side, move on to a new career…?
