Liverpool, aiming to strengthen its midfielders, has been reaching out to young midfielders since the recruitment of Alexis Mac Allister, with Kefren Tulum at the helm, citing physical strength and height in the midfield as priorities.
However, with no progress being made in the search for a second player, Hungarian midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, who has been rumored to be on the move to Newcastle, has emerged as a candidate. He is the type of player who can play an attacking role and contribute goals and assists.
The contract between RB Leipzig and the player includes a termination fee of €70m. With the deadline for his release clause expiring at the end of June, it would be unrealistic for Liverpool, who have little time left and a limited budget.
However, the former RB Salzburg midfielder wants to play at Anfield and would prefer to work with coach Jurgen Klopp rather than Champions League qualifiers Newcastle, according to Leipziger Volkszeitung’s Guido Schafer.
“For me it is very true that Szoboszlai wants to go to Liverpool.”
“If Szoboszlai can choose between Champions League with Newcastle and Europa League with Jurgen Klopp, he will choose Klopp and the Europa League, that’s for sure.”
The Anfield Wrap
Time is running out not only for Liverpool but for Newcastle as well, hopefully they can make good use of former Fulham midfielder Fabio Carvalho, who is about to move to RB Leipzig on loan.
But will the Hungarian gem be transferred just in time for the deadline…?
