Liverpool has successfully upgraded its midfielders, while also having a number of midfielders who were shorthanded after the departure of James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
They have also achieved a generational shift from veterans such as Jordan Henderson, and have had a near 100-point summer transfer market.
The addition of Khéphren Thuram or Romeo Lavia would be ideal, but attention now appears to be shifting to left-handed center backs. Chelsea’s England defender Levi Colwill is the top priority target, but Wolfsburg defender Mickey van de Ven has also been reported as a possible candidate.
Although interest seemed to have waned recently as Tottenham Hotspur joined the fray and Liverpool concentrated on rebuilding their midfield, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that Liverpool may once again be close to the Dutch U-21 defender.
“Liverpool had some contacts end of May, beginning of June, Liverpool were very well informed on the situation of Micky van de Ven,”
“Then they decided to focus on the midfield, not to send any bid to Wolfsburg. Tottenham have entered the race and Tottenham remain in contact with Wolfsburg.”
“But in case Tottenham decide to sign Tapsoba and not Van de Ven, he will be back on the market, and I think this is a situation to watch again.”
“In that case it really depends on the price tag because Wolfsburg are asking for big money but if this was to change in the next few days I think this could be one to watch for many sides.”
With new coach Ange Postecoglou in charge, Tottenham will need to strengthen its defense in order to make a fresh start. The first choice is Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba, but the team is also tracking Van De Ven as an alternative candidate.
