With Jordan Henderson and Fabinho approaching a move to Saudi Arabia, Liverpool is on the hunt for a successor. Various midfielders’ names are being tossed around, with Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia as the top target.
And now a new player has joined the list of candidates. Steve Kay, an English journalist, admitted that Liverpool are interested in Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, but also have their eyes on Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka.
“He’s (Amrabat) a quality player and I think Liverpool are looking at him as well, and I think Liverpool are also looking at Goretzka I heard tonight,”The Transfer Exchange Show
The German midfielder, who joined Bayern from Schalke in 2018, reigns over the midfield with his large frame and strong physicality, scoring 34 goals and 35 assists in 179 games for the club. He has also made 53 appearances for the German national team, scoring 14 goals, and at the age of 28, is at the peak of his career.
This summer, the club signed Austrian midfielder Konrad Reimer from RB Leipzig in a free transfer, and he has been forced out of his absolute position. The club is reportedly considering selling him for up to €50m, and West Ham, which released England midfielder Declan Rice, is said to be interested in him.
However, Southampton is also demanding £50m for the Belgian midfielder, which Liverpool sees as high and is unlikely to make a high offer for the player, who will turn 29 next year.
Furthermore, he is more of a central midfielder type player than a defensive midfielder, and inside half is the best position for him at Liverpool. It is hard to say that he is a necessary player, as he would be covered by newcomers such as Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, as well as the fast-growing Curtis Jones.
It is possible that he is one of the candidates and that we are following his movements, although the probability of him making a concrete move is low… But what if he does.
